The Mandalorian: Chapter 6: The Prisoner
The Mandalorian: Chapter 6: The Prisoner is one of the latest episodes released on Disney + (we have only gotten to chapter 6 and will review chapter 7 as soon as possible). The episode was directed by Rick Famuyiwa and follows the Mandalorain has he joins a crew of mercenaries on a dangerous mission to spring a convict from a New Republic prisoner ship.
Whilst Chapter 5 of The Mandalorain at times left a lot to be desired compared to the high standards of the original episodes, but I am happy to say that chapter 6: The prisoner brings the series back on form. This chapter introduces a range of new characters which are all a great addition into the series but what is nice to see is the Mandalorain on the hunt when the mercenaries gang betray him. The general filmmaking in this episode is overall great with the visuals really creating the classic Star Wars feel that we all have to come to love. I especially love the visuals when the Mandalorian looks down the ship and goes on the hunt when the red flashing lights and really creates a horror feel to the episode.
I special mention has to be towards the end sequences involving the New Republic X-Wings we have some great cameos from previous Mandalorain directors which was a nice little nod towards their work. It was also nice to explore a bit more of the New Republic before it gets obliterated in Star Wars: Episode 7: The Force Awakens the new style of security droids and the New Republic staff members and those X-Wings.
There wasn't really anything major that I didn't like about the episode, sure there are some interesting new characters introduced in this episode, but I personally would of liked more information in regards to these characters. The episode introduces that there were some interesting backstories between some of the characters and even though this episode leaves the fate of some of characters up in the air so they can explore the characters relationships further in season 2, but I personally would of liked a bit of time dedicated to exploring these relationships that give the betrayal in the episode more impactful.
Over all this was a step up from last week's episode in a big way and introduces so new and exciting characters to Star Wars lore, and those cameos at the end of the episode was a nice touch. This episode will please the Star Wars community.
Verdict: 4 / 5 Stars
