The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 4 "The Whole World is Watching" Review

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

Episode 4: The Whole World is Watching is essentially a game changing episode in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series not only in the development of the Flag Smashers as the threat they are trying to be but on a more grounded personal level with screen time given to flesh out some of the members of the Flag Smashers but also game changing moments with John Walker that changes the direction of the series and the future of the Captain America mantle as well.

Walker throughout the entire episode is on edge and is losing patients with Sam and Bucky and the whole situation in general wanting to barge in and take down Karli and whilst Sam and Bucky take the cautious and diplomatic approach to try and talk down Karli, Walker essential derails the entire situation and attempts to take down Karli ruining any progress made by Sam. The episode does a good job at showing how different Walker is to Steve whilst showing also how unstable he is. Walker has the biggest moments in the episode by far as he is driven to get a vile of the super solider serum for himself after getting beaten by the Dora Milaje earlier on in the episode (we will talk more about them later), Zemo who manages to injure Karli destroys all the super solider serum apart from one hidden away that Walker find. It is hinted that of course Walker takes the serum and after the death of Battlestar at the hands of Karli goes full rage mode and brutally kills a member of the Flag Smashers with the shield in front of the general public. This will have major implications moving forward as it is easy to see the world starting to turn on the new Captain America after this brutal attack.

The involvement of the Dora Milaje is a major inclusion and have their own mission in this episode trying to recapture Zemo and whilst their attempts are unsuccessful as Zemo escapes we do get a great action set pieces showing the Dora Milaje taking on Walker and Battlestar with ease. This action sequence shows how inadequate of a fighter Walker is compared to highly trained individuals that have no special ability leading to him wanting to take the serum.

Sam and Bucky get some great moments throughout the episode especially with Bucky throwing jokes at Walker as he is getting beaten by the Dora Milaje but this episode does a good job at focusing on fleshing out the role of the Flag Smashers and Karli’s own personal situation and delving into what could be the demise of the new Captain America and could lead to Sam / Bucky trying to take back the shield.

Overall this episode leaves the series in an interesting place, with only two episodes left of the series it is still hard to see how the series will wrap up all the story threads going on but is teasing what could be an exciting showdown between Sam, Bucky and Walker.

Verdict: 4 / 5 stars
