The Mandalorian Chapter 16: The Rescue Review

This review contains spoilers

The finale for The Mandalorian Chapter 16: The Rescue is finally here and whilst it's exciting to see the events of season 2 come to an end and see how The Mandalorian rescues Grogu it is also bittersweet as it means that there are no more episodes coming for at least a year.

Wow what can I say about this chapter.... not only is it an action-packed chapter that includes the majority of the main characters from season two and also concludes The Mandalorian search for a member of Grogu's own kind (a Jedi) well for now at least, whilst giving fans one of the greatest surprise cameos.

The chapter from the start is fast paced and it has to be to try and bring certain story lines to a close which is packed with action from the initial infiltration of Moff Gideon's Light Cruiser using an Imperial Lambda Shuttle, to Bo Katan leading a small task force battling Storm troopers making quick work of them and an epic showdown between The Mandalorian and Moff Gideon with the Darksaber being used against the Beskar staff, which was a great little duel and it is great to see the Darksaber actually in use in live action.

Whilst the action is great and keeps you on the edge of your seat it is the pure emotion that is delivered in the final moments of the chapter that really makes this chapter stand out and it is in the moments when the Mandalorian and Grogu say a potential goodbye (we will have to see what happens in season 3). The moment Mando takes of his helmet really captures the performances really well and really pulls at the heart strings and makes it not only one of the strongest moments from season 2 but from the first season as well.

One of the biggest moments from the finale of season 2 was the reveal of a certain Jedi and that Jedi is none other than Luke Skywalker himself. Luke comes to the teams rescue as they are about to be attacked by the Dark Troopers. Luke single handed takes down the Dark Troopers with ease showing his true skills and connection to the force and is great to see Luke in the years after Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi in full Jedi Master mode and of course the trusted R2-D2 is never far behind and makes a cameo as well joining Luke in taking Grogu for training and protection.

Overall, the finale was an excellent episode that delivers great action sequence, high stakes, a heart breaking ending and a great fan service cameo. Season 2 of The Mandalorian exceeded my expectations and has set the bar very high for season 3. It will be interesting to see what direction the story goes in and if we will see Grogu again.

Verdict: 5 / 5 Stars
