Loki Episode 6: For All Time. Always. Review

THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS

What a series Loki has been, personally for me this series has delivered week on week and not only giving us more Loki content but also expanding on and introducing the MCU to the wider multiverse and essentially setting the stage for what the future of the MCU will look like moving forward.

Now this season finale (yes Loki has been renewed for season 2) might split fans in terms of its content. What has previously been the case in previous MCU Disney + series is a finale episode which brings a sense of close to the story the series was trying to tell with that classic MCU action, but Loki diverts away from this with very little action and whilst answering some questions creates a load more questions that hopefully season 2 and the future projects within the MCU will explore over the next couple of years.

The finale itself bring Loki and Sylvie to a the citadel at the end of time where they are introduced to the man behind the curtain in the form of “He who remains” played by Jonathan Majors who we know will be playing Kang the Conqueror in future MCU projects. Now “He who remains” is essential a variant of Kang and according the director is more closely based on Immortus. “He who remains” essentially gives Loki and Sylvie a choice to either replace him and control the TVA to protect the sacred timeline or kill him which would result in multiverse chaos and allow more violent versions of Kang into the main timeline, after a brief disagreement between the pair, Sylvie sends Loki back the TVA and kills “He who remains” creating the birth of multiverse in the MCU as we know it, which is where the episode ends.

Now this leaves the MCU in a very interesting place moving forward as the episode ends with multiple timeline branches throughout time and allows for some interesting story telling moving forward in the MCU, could a live action Spider verse film be on the cards? (if you believe the current rumours circulating regarding Spider-Man: No Way Home) or even an MCU adaption of the Secret Wars storyline? One thing is certain the MCU is in a very interesting place right now and leaves me as fan exciting for the multiple storyline possibilities that could be told moving forward.

As an episode it is certainly heavy on the dialogue and on exposition and whilst casual MCU fans might miss those action-packed sequences this entire finale purpose is to pave the way for what is to come in the MCU whilst setting up the second series. Whilst the episode might lack action it surely makes up for it from a great performance from Jonathan Majors and excites me more about the introduction of Kang the Conqueror to the MCU. One thing is for certain the MCU won’t be the same again.

Verdict: 4 / 5 Stars
