Incredibles 2 Review

"I was approached by this tycoon, wants to talk about hero stuff!"

Incredibles 2 was written and directed by Brad Bird (the original films director as well), and stars the likes of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner, Eli Fucile, Samuel L. Jackson, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener and Brad Bird. The film literally starts just as the original film ends, and continues to follow the Parr family in the wake of the incidents of the first film. Bob Parr (Mr Incredible) is left at home this time around to look after the kids (and try and work out math!) whilst Helen Parr (Elastigirl) is out trying to bring superheroes back into the public's good books.

The Parr family are finally back!! 14 years later from the smash hit original film that many of us grew up on, comes Incredibles 2, the sequel we have always wanted but never got, but it's finally here and it certainly was worth the wait. Incredibles 2 could have been a risky film, with so much hype surrounding the original film, there was certainly an extreme amount of pressure and expectations that the sequel had to live up to and had to try to match the original film. But Incredible 2 doesn't worry about pressure and expectations and honestly makes it look effortlessly in matching the original film in every way.

There are so many great elements about this film, that really (and I mean really!) make it match up to the quality of the original film. First of the animation is this film is stunning, and matches the detail that the original film gave us, whilst using more modern techniques and a much wider canvas to expand upon in the world of the Incredibles. One of the most successful elements about the film for me was the continuation in the relationship from the first film. After 14 years since the original film, some might have thought that it might of been difficult to recapture the magic that the first film had, but honestly all the pieces fall back instantly and we are thrown back into the lives of the Parr family like we haven't left them. Incredibles 2 is not afraid to go much deeper in terms of family dynamics and further development of these characters, and these are truly golden moments in the film, whether it be Robert Parr (Mr Incredible) Helping Dash with his math homework ("why would they change math!!) to Dash and Violet arguing over who looks after Jack-Jack during a mission, the film really brings these moments together and gives us some truly memorable and heart warming sequences. With any superhero film, one question remains how was the action? ... well the action was exciting and fun and over the top and just brilliant, and the animation really helps to enhance the action in every single way possible, and definitely without a doubt takes it up a notch from the original film.

Normally in our reviews this is the part where we normally add some things that didn't hit the mark, or disappointed compared to the rest of the film, but I can honestly say that there was not anything major that I did not like about the film (I honestly mean that!). I honestly sat through the film, with a giant smile on my face the whole way through the film and I enjoyed every second of it. Sure if you start to get really critical you could say that maybe they should of brought the Screenslaver (the villain of the film) in a bit earlier into the film, in terms of the films narrative, and maybe the "big reveal" in the film was getting a bit predictable at times. And whilst these are very small critiques it did not ruin the enjoyment of the film for me at all, and honestly The Incredible franchise including both Incredibles, and Incredibles 2 just seem to get better and better, and honestly seems to put most modern superhero franchises to shame! (I'm looking at you DCEU).

Oh and by the way Jack-Jack is truly amazing, and is the secret star of this film, stealing nearly every scene that he is in, I won't ruin anything but a scene including Jack-Jack and a raccoon is truly great!

Overall Incredibles 2 is a great family film, wait what am I saying, it's a great film for all ages, and for those of us who waiting 14 years for this film, it was well worth the wait. But a word of advice Brad Bird and Disney Pixar if you're going to make Incredibles 3, please don't make us wait another 14 years, we want it as soon as possible!

Verdict: 5 out 5 stars
